Date of Birth: 18th February 1970
Marital Status: Married to the talented and gorgeous Chantal
Education: Studied Criminology at Ridley College, University of Toronto
He’s the founder member of Our Lady Peace, after placing an advertisement in the Toronto Star for further band members, his melancholy lyrics have touched the hearts of many and his unique singing voice has been all in a days work for Raine Maida. Goes under his stage name of "Raine" so that there is no confusion between himself and guitarist Mike Turner. A self confessed "introverted person, who prefers to keep his own company much of the time". He’s thoughtful, intense and sensitive - likes to challenge things. Thinks that his criminology studies gave him a fascination for the dark side. Took up yoga after a back and knee injury he sustained during the "Naveed" tour. He grew up listening to early U2, the Stones and Bruce Springsteen -"U2 delivered music that made the hairs on my neck stand up". His parent’s divorced when he was 13 and was sent away to school. Got thrown out of high school because he wouldn’t cut his hair. He wrote "4am" in honour of his father - the title has a double meaning, firstly it was written at 4am and secondly, Raine’s father’s initials are A.M. He apparently knows every good sushi restaurant in every major city in America - "I love eating sushi, that’s my vice".
One thing Mr. Maida would like you to remember though "I want people to either love or hate Our Lady Peace. To be in the middle is very boring." - Well people, I’ve made my mind up, how about you?
